Circle Five Cattle Co. Cow Herd Dispersal February 19, 2004 Valentine Livestock Market We are dispersing our cow herd after the sale of our ranch near Brewster, Nebraska. This herd was started in 1986 with Angus females from the Runner Ranch north of Ashby, Nebraska. We used Tarentaise bulls to produce F1 females and in the 90's switched to composite bulls to maintain the hybrid vigor in our herd. The cows offered for sale are composite we have raised with approx. 100 six and sevens purchased from Leachman Cattle Co. They will be approx. 50 % red or black Angus cross with Tarentaise and South Devon. Cows are moderate in frame with approx. half red half black hided. This herd has been culled from 1600 hd the last two years due to dry pasture conditions. We took out old and low performing cows with the best left for this offering. Bulls were turned out july 20, 2003 and the cows were pregged the week of October 20th. Cows eill calves April 20th for a 60 day period and we have been getting 80% of the calves in the first 30 days. We used Angus X Tarentaise, Angus X South Devon, Angus and Red Angus bulls purchased from Leachman's and Milligan Farms and Ranches. A sample of our mature bulls will be available for viewing and purchase sale day. Our bred heifers were synchronized and AI'd July 6-8 to AN T510 and ANNbar Prime Time and cleaned up 30 days with AN 6I6 sons from Motts We have selected for Reproductive Efficiency: 96% bred and 92% calves weaned/ cow exposed in 2003, Feedlot Performance: 584 steers in wt 729# fed 162 days to out wt. 1387# gaining 4.06#/day, converting 5.98# DM, with a #.405 cost of gain in 2003, Carcass Merit: 67% Choice and Prime and $21.82 Carcass Premium in 2003.
